Important Safety Concern:
Recently, some underage drivers on motorcycles and four wheelers have been picking up students after school or after school events (soccer practice, cross country run etc.). One example (and there are many) was an underage driver who picked up a sibling 10 km away from home, in the dark, with 4 other passengers on the four wheeler. As a staff, we cannot allow students to leave school events with an underaged sibling in a motorized vehicle. We encourage parents to pick up their child themselves or arrange for a neighbour to pick them up.
The school is responsible for the safety of all students until they arrive at home or are in the care of a responsible adult. We take this responsibility very seriously.
We want to encourage our children to obey the law. We know that these things do happen and that some see it as normal. However, if we allowed a child to leave a school event with an underage driver and something happened to that student, we would greatly regret the decision. Thank you for understanding and helping us keep your children safe and alive.
